This Weekend: Let’s Dance with Baby Disco!!!

Screen Shot 2013-04-08 at 12.48.09 PMI don’t know if any of you are Shark Tank addicts like me, but I love the show!  I was watching a couple of weeks ago, and although this company didn’t get a sharks investment, I wanted to check them out and support their business.

It’s been what seems like eons since I have been in a club, but this event will bring you back to your party days with kids in tow!

It’s called Baby Loves Disco and they are going to be in Chicago this weekend.  Their concept is really cool as they rent out a club/bar space and turn it into a kid friendly space.  They child proof the space and provide kid friendly snacks and drinks.  They state that it will be an afternoon dance party with a real DJ spinning classic disco tunes from the 70s and 80s.

They also have specialty corners with bubble machines, egg shakers, chill zone (tents, books and puzzles), diaper changing stations, and of course a spread of healthy snacks.

For just $15 bucks a pop it is something different  to take your kids too.  Ages 6 months to 6 years.

We will be there and I hope to see you there too!

Toddler Birthday’s in the City

Holden’s birthday is coming up in just a couple of months and with the big 2 I am going to have a birthday party with all of his little friends.  Like many of us in the city we are low on space; and the thought of having 10 kids and their parents packed into our condo gives me agita.

As I researched the many indoor playgrounds and venues to host a birthday party I was shocked at how pricey the spaces are, however I give them major props (and wish I thought of them) because they are booked months out!  Of course the frugalista in me knew there had to be some more reasonable options in our fine city [other than McDonalds playground] and I am here to share them with you!

1. The park – there are so many amazing parks to host your party and if it is under 50 people it is 100% free and no permits necessary.  The only downside is the weather and you have to bring all of your own supplies (tables, chairs, decor etc).  The upside is that many of the parks have a rec center with ‘club rooms’ that you can reserve for just $25/hour.  They will supply the tables/chars and the space.  All you have to do is bring the decor and food and voila you have an indoor party for an affordable price.  Since my first choice is to have the party outside, the park director reserved the room for me free of charge and all I have to do is call a few days before the party to solidify the room in case of rain – what a cinch!

For a park near you check out their site:

2. If you are looking to have a theme party try Wagner Farm.  I’m cheating a bit because it is outside of the city in Glenview, but with it being less than 15 miles from Lakveiew it is definitely worth mentioning.  The pricing is really reasonable and I love that it is a true working farm.  We picked pumpkins from this patch last year and the selection is wonderful!  The apples are delicious too!  They also have a chicken coop and cows to view, and what kid wouldn’t like a wagon ride!  They book up early so plan in advance for this hot spot.

Check it out at

I am always short on time when it comes to shopping for party goods.  I’ve been finding incredible deals on that will be delivered right to my door – how easy is that.

9/5/12 – There is a deal on for a birthday party at My Corner Playroom for $195 off the retail price.  $190 2 hour party at an indoor plaground sounds pretty enticing to me and we may just swith it up for Holden’s party this year!  As an added bonus, they have guest parking!  We supply the food, they supply the venue – a great deal in my eyes!  I hope you can scoop it up too!

Hello world!

My name is Juliana Yeager and I am first and foremost a mom and a wife, but I am also a full time BROKER-REALTOR® with @properties.

Just like my profession is to advise my clients on the purchase and sales of their homes, my blog is to give you tips and advice on all the great things to do with kids in this amazing city.  I love encouraging people to remain city bound and raise their families amongst the bungalows, skyscrapers, brownstones and all the walk-a-bouts this amazing city has to offer.  Gone are the days when you have to run to the ‘burbs’ the minute you find out your pregnant.

It is possible to raise a family in the city and I’ll share with you the in’s and the out’s on schools, parks, playgrounds, restaurants, activities and so much more.  I welcome your comments to wonderful things you have discovered with your kids as well.

Our son Holden is about to turn 2, and I encourage you to come with me on the journey of raising kids in the city.
