🧒 For the Kids

Garfield Park Conservatory: Showers of Flowers

📅 Now through May 10 · Thu-Sun 10am-5pm · Wed until 8pm📍 300 N. Central Park Ave., East Garfield Park💰 Free for Chicago residents · Timed reservations at garfieldconservatory.org👦 All ages · Stroller-friendly

This is the Chicago spring break staycation move that feels like a total secret. The Garfield Park Conservatory has been here since 1908. It is one of the largest conservatories in the world and it is completely free for Chicago residents.

This year’s show is “Showers of Flowers.” It features more than 80 hanging baskets filled with trailing vines, asparagus ferns, pansies and petunias. Ground plantings include daffodils, tulips, orchids, snapdragons, azaleas and hydrangeas. The warm air and fragrance alone are worth the trip after the winter we just had.

Book your timed reservation in advance at garfieldconservatory.org. It is calm, stroller-friendly and genuinely beautiful. Younger kids love the giant fern room. Older kids are surprisingly into it too.

🏡 Realtor Mom Take: East Garfield Park is one of Chicago’s most undervalued neighborhoods for buyers who want space and character. It sits right next to the West Loop without the West Loop price tag. If you have never looked here, it might genuinely surprise you.

Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle: Go Spectate

📅 Sunday, March 22 · 8K Run starts 8:30am · 2-Mile Walk starts 9:30am📍 Grant Park, Columbus Dr. and Monroe Dr., Loop💰 Free to spectate · Post-race party at Buckingham Fountain from 9am👦 All ages · Great for older kids who love energy and crowds

Even if you did not register, this is worth showing up for. The 45th Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle is a Chicago rite of spring. It sends thousands of green-clad runners on a scenic 8K through downtown, starting and finishing in Grant Park.

Park yourself along the course with the kids and cheer on the runners. After the race, there is a post-race party at Buckingham Fountain with live music from 9:30am. It is genuinely one of the best mornings of the entire year in this city.

Note: race registration is sold out. However, spectating is free and honestly just as fun with little ones in tow.

🏡 Realtor Mom Take: Grant Park is the front yard of some of the most compelling real estate in the city. The South Loop is consistently undervalued by buyers who have not yet experienced what it actually feels like to live steps from all of this.

DIY Vintage Toy Store Crawl

📅 Any day this weekend · Best on Saturday · Go at your own pace📍 Multiple North Side neighborhoods · All CTA accessible💰 Budget whatever nostalgia costs you👦 All ages · Kids and adults equally obsessed

If you are doing a Chicago spring break staycation this weekend, this is the move that turns an ordinary Saturday into a full adventure. Chicago has some of the best independent toy and collectible stores in the country. Furthermore, four of them are strung across the North Side in a route that doubles as a great neighborhood tour.

Stop 1: Throwback Toys · Wicker Park

Start at 1507 N. Milwaukee Ave. This is a vintage collector’s paradise stocked with Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man and just about every beloved toy line from the 70s, 80s and 90s. The owner Mike is legendary for his knowledge. Prices are fair and the selection is deep.

Stop 2: Toy de Jour · Bucktown

Head to 2532 W. Fullerton Ave. This is Chicago’s best vintage toy and collectible store focused on 80s and 90s toys, retro action figures, classic board games and quirky collectibles. It has the energy of a treasure hunt every single time.

Stop 3: Rotofugi · Lincoln Park

Next, stop at 2780 N. Lincoln Ave. This one skews toward designer toys, Japanese vinyl figures and pop culture collectibles. It is consistently rated the best toy store in Chicago. There is also an attached art gallery showcasing toy and character design.

Stop 4: Quake Collectibles · Lincoln Square

Finish at 4628 N. Lincoln Ave. Open since 1991, Quake is a floor-to-ceiling treasure hunt of new and vintage collectibles, from classic wrestling figures to Ninja Turtles and everything in between. Saturday hours are noon to 6pm. After your final stop, grab coffee at Cafe Selmarie right in the neighborhood. You have earned it.

🏡 Realtor Mom Take: Wicker Park, Bucktown, Lincoln Park and Lincoln Square are four of the most consistently in-demand Chicago real estate markets. Each has its own personality. All four deliver the walkability, dining and community energy that buyers tell me they are looking for. If any of these neighborhoods are on your radar this spring, let’s talk.

Spring Is the Sellers’ Window. Are You Ready?

Buyers Are Back and They Are Moving Fast

The National Association of Realtors just released its Pending Home Sales Index for February. Signed contracts rose 1.8% compared to January. That signals a clear surge of buyer activity entering the spring season. Moreover, according to DePaul University’s Institute for Housing Studies, the Chicago metro area is forecast to see closed sales grow 5.1% and median prices rise nearly 5% year over year in 2026.

Buyers who sat on the sidelines all winter are now activated. They are pre-approved, they are motivated and they are making decisions fast. In the $700K to $1M-plus range where we work, well-priced and well-presented homes are generating serious interest. The buyers in this price point are decisive. When the right home hits the market, they act.

Why Right Now Matters for Sellers

The window is open right now and it is wide open. However, spring selling seasons do not last forever. The conversation you have today directly impacts the price you command in April and May. If your home is the one your neighbor’s buyer is looking for, let’s make sure they find it first.

We are also strategically curating offers for listings where our sellers want exclusivity. In other words, not every great home goes on Zillow for 100 people to clamor through. We can provide that same strategic approach for you. Therefore, if you have been thinking about listing this spring, reach out now.
