Holden’s birthday is coming up in just a couple of months and with the big 2 I am going to have a birthday party with all of his little friends. Like many of us in the city we are low on space; and the thought of having 10 kids and their parents packed into our condo gives me agita.
As I researched the many indoor playgrounds and venues to host a birthday party I was shocked at how pricey the spaces are, however I give them major props (and wish I thought of them) because they are booked months out! Of course the frugalista in me knew there had to be some more reasonable options in our fine city [other than McDonalds playground] and I am here to share them with you!
1. The park – there are so many amazing parks to host your party and if it is under 50 people it is 100% free and no permits necessary. The only downside is the weather and you have to bring all of your own supplies (tables, chairs, decor etc). The upside is that many of the parks have a rec center with ‘club rooms’ that you can reserve for just $25/hour. They will supply the tables/chars and the space. All you have to do is bring the decor and food and voila you have an indoor party for an affordable price. Since my first choice is to have the party outside, the park director reserved the room for me free of charge and all I have to do is call a few days before the party to solidify the room in case of rain – what a cinch!

2. If you are looking to have a theme party try Wagner Farm. I’m cheating a bit because it is outside of the city in Glenview, but with it being less than 15 miles from Lakveiew it is definitely worth mentioning. The pricing is really reasonable and I love that it is a true working farm. We picked pumpkins from this patch last year and the selection is wonderful! The apples are delicious too! They also have a chicken coop and cows to view, and what kid wouldn’t like a wagon ride! They book up early so plan in advance for this hot spot.

I am always short on time when it comes to shopping for party goods. I’ve been finding incredible deals on amazon.com that will be delivered right to my door – how easy is that.

UPDATE:
9/5/12 – There is a deal on Plumdistrict.com for a birthday party at My Corner Playroom for $195 off the retail price. $190 2 hour party at an indoor plaground sounds pretty enticing to me and we may just swith it up for Holden’s party this year! As an added bonus, they have guest parking! We supply the food, they supply the venue – a great deal in my eyes! I hope you can scoop it up too!
