It’s fall! It’s the final days of being able to enjoy being outside before Chicago’s winter hits and we’re all stuck inside 24/7. Savor and enjoy this time as much as you can. With every season, I feel like theres traditions every family has. Well, fall is one of my favorites, for many reasons. I love the fun decor (can’t wait to show you all my porch!), food is some of the yummiest (hello, pumpkin spice latte), and the weather is incredible. I also love fall fashion- way more opportunity to accessorize. But besides all of that, the family actives are immense! There’s pumpkin patches, apple orchards, hay rides, and the all encompassing HALLOWEEN. Who doesn’t love a spooky time of year. Hocus Pocus is one of my favorite movies, I indulge in whatever that 31 days of Halloween thing is on the Freeform channel every year.

But, back to fun things you can do as a family. One of the best is a pumpkin patch. Usually, with a pumpkin patch comes a lot more actives at the location for the kiddos to delve into like petting zoos, corn mazes, climbing activities- they’re all there.

Our go-to spot for all of this is Goebbert’s Farm and Garden Center. We’ve been going here forever. Living downtown, we do have to travel for most of our fall activities, this one is in Barrington. The little ones get excited every year to pick their selection of gourds, pumpkins, and squash to carve and decorate. They have a harvest fest that goes through Halloween everyday 9am-6pm. It is so much fun, and if you catch it on a beautiful day, it can’t be beat. They have not only pony rides, but camel rides too! And one of my favorites is the pig races. Can’t help but laugh at the names they come up with. It’s a prime spot for the kids to run around and enjoy all that Goebbert’s has to offer.

P.S. head to the store before you leave to pick up delish seasonal offerings like Toffee Apple pie, pumpkin salsa (surprisingly soooo good and has jalapeños for an unexpected kick), and decorated Carmel/candy apples. Might as well indulge now that we’re all wearing loose sweaters and jackets… right?

Good ole’ apple pickin’. Load up on the seasonal fruit. A kids favorite, they go crazy running down the lanes picking them all off the trees. I did too, it was actually my first time going apple picking! With so many delicious varieties, you can’t go wrong here. Located in Hobart, IN this is a little bit of a trek. But, the end result is worth the driving. We went this past weekend and got close to 20lbs of apples!! Only a few days left to check out this spot as they close for the winter season on October 28th.  Time to think up some recipes with apples now…

Hope you and your little ones can enjoy these places as much as we do! What are your favorite fall activities?!
