Things to do in Chicago this weekend just hit a whole new gear. It is 80 degrees. Every pool in the city is open. The lakefront is calling. And this weekend Chicago has not one, not two, but three street festivals happening simultaneously across the North Side, West Side and Northwest Side all at once. This is what we moved here for. This is what we stay here for. And if you have not grabbed the free 2026 Chicago Summer Festival Guide yet, this is your reminder. Download it, put it on the fridge and live your best Chicago summer. Let’s get into this weekend.
☀️ 80 DEGREES · POOLS OPEN · BEACHES ALIVE · NAVY PIER FIREWORKS EVERY WEEK
Chicago summer is officially, finally, gloriously here.
🧒 FOR THE KIDS

🌭 KIDS VOTE FOR THE BEST HOT DOG IN CHICAGO · ALL WEEKEND
Windy City Hot Dog Fest: Chicago’s Most Delicious Family Debate
📅 Friday May 29 through Sunday May 31📍 Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave., Portage Park🎟️ windycityhotdogfest.com · All ages
Here is the most important question in Chicago right now. Who makes the best hot dog in the city? This weekend Portage Park settles it. The Windy City Hot Dog Fest brings together vendors from across Chicago to compete for the title of best hot dog as voted by the people eating them. Which means your kids are the judges. And honestly, there is no better job than that on a warm May weekend.
This is also a great excuse to explore Portage Park, a neighborhood on the Northwest Side that does not always make the North Side radar but absolutely should. It is a tight-knit, family-forward community with great housing stock and a real neighborhood feel that longtime Chicagoans know well. Go for the hot dogs, stay to walk the park and see a different side of this city.
Details and tickets at windycityhotdogfest.com. Bring cash, bring napkins and bring your most opinionated hot dog opinions.
🏡 Realtor Mom Take: Portage Park is a Northwest Side neighborhood that consistently surprises buyers who discover it. Strong schools, beautiful park, large lots, genuine community character and price points that offer real value compared to the neighborhoods closer to the city. It is the kind of neighborhood that gets discovered and then all your friends follow you there. It’s worth knowing about and adding to your list.
🍷 FOR THE ADULTS (and Kids during the day)

🎵 TWO LIVE STAGES · WICKER PARK · PROGRAMMED BY THE EMPTY BOTTLE AND SUBTERRANEAN
Do Division Street Fest: Wicker Parks Best Weekend of the Year
📅 Friday May 29 through Sunday May 31📍 Division St. between Damen and Leavitt, Wicker Park🎟️ dodivision.com · All ages · Two live music stages all weekend
Do Division is the street festival that music people love. Two stages programmed by The Empty Bottle and Subterranean, two of Chicago’s most respected independent music venues, mean the lineups here are genuinely good. Not tribute bands and cover acts. Real Chicago music curated by people who know what they are doing. That alone puts Do Division in a different category from most street fests.
Division Street in Wicker Park on a warm May weekend is also just a great place to be. The neighborhood has one of the best independent restaurant and bar scenes on the North Side and the festival energy on these blocks feels like the whole street came alive at once. Go Friday night to kick off the long weekend right. Stay for dinner on Division or Damen after the music wraps.
Full lineup and details at dodivision.com. Both stages run all three days.
🏡 Realtor Mom Take: The Wicker Park blocks surrounding Do Division are among the most interesting real estate stories on the North Side right now. Buyers who want old world neighborhood character, great walkability and a community that genuinely shows up for itself keep landing here. And the prices still make sense compared to Lincoln Park and Lakeview. If Wicker Park is not on your radar yet, put it there.
🗺️ EVERYTHING ELSE HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND
The city is fully activated. Here is everything else worth knowing about this weekend.
🍺 Maifest · Lincoln Square
Friday May 29 through Sunday May 31 · Lincoln Ave. and Western Ave. · Back at its original home by the CTA stop · lincolnsquare.org
Giant beers, traditional German food, polka bands and the warmest neighborhood energy in Chicago. Maifest is back at its original Lincoln Square home this year and it is the most fun you can have in a dirndl on a Friday night. Lincoln Square does German culture better than anywhere else in the city. Go at least one evening this weekend.
🎨 Magnificent Mile Art Festival
Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31 · Michigan Avenue · Free to attend
Original artwork from local and national artists lines Michigan Avenue this weekend in one of the most scenic outdoor art festival settings in the country. Free to attend, great for a Saturday morning walk and a reminder of why the Magnificent Mile is still one of the great urban stretches in America.
🎆 Navy Pier Fireworks · Every Week All Summer
Every Wednesday at 9pm · Every Saturday at 10pm · Through Labor Day · Free · navypier.com
The summer fireworks season is now in full swing. Free, spectacular and one of the great Chicago summer rituals. Watch from the pier, the lakefront trail, a rooftop or honestly just your car on DuSable Lake Shore Drive. It never gets old.
🏊 Chicago Pools and Beaches Are Open
All summer · Chicago Park District pools and lakefront beaches · Free for residents · chicagoparkdistrict.com
It is 80 degrees and the pools are open. That is all you need to know. Pack your bag, grab the kids and get to your nearest park district pool or head straight to the lakefront. North Avenue Beach, Montrose Beach, Ohio Street Beach. Pick one. Summer is here and the lake is waiting.
🚴 Lakefront Trail: Peak Season Begins
18.5 miles · Free · Open daily · chicagoparkdistrict.com
The Lakefront Trail at 80 degrees on a May weekend is one of the best things about living in this city. Bike it, run it, walk it or just sit on the rocks and watch the skyline. You do not need a festival to have a perfect Chicago summer day. Sometimes you just need the lake.
The Market Is Shifting. And That Is Actually Great News for Buyers.
Buyers: Your Moment Is Coming
The intense spring competition that defined April and May is starting to ease. Memorial Day weekend is historically the market’s turning point in Chicago and we are feeling it. Buyers who stayed patient are about to get more breathing room, more options and sellers who are genuinely motivated to make a deal before summer fully sets in. If you have been on the sidelines waiting for the right moment, that moment is arriving right now.
On top of that, new inventory is coming. Move-up sellers who held back through the spring rush are starting to list. Which means the second half of summer is shaping up to be a much healthier buying environment than what we saw in April. The smart buyers are getting ready now so they can move fast when the right home hits.
Yeager Team New Listings: Coming Very Soon
We are getting very close to revealing some exciting new listings and we cannot wait to share them with this community first. The Yeager Team has new homes coming to market soon in Lincoln Square, East Lakeview, Southport Corridor and the South Loop. These are four of the most sought-after addresses in Chicago and they are not going to last long once they hit. If any of those neighborhoods are on your list, the best thing you can do right now is get ahead of the announcement. Reach out today and we will make sure you hear about these before anyone else does. Visit our real estate page to learn more about how we work and what we have coming.
