St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Chicago is here. First, it is one of the most fun weekends of the entire year. Second, it also kicks off spring break for many Chicago families. So whether your kids are already out of school or you just need a reason to get outside, this is your weekend. Below you will find the best things to do in Chicago with kids this weekend, two great picks for adults, and a real estate market update that every Chicago buyer and seller needs to read right now.

FOR THE KIDS

The Chicago River Dyeing and St. Patrick’s Day Parade 📅 Saturday, March 14 · Dyeing starts at 10am📍 Chicago River between State St. and Columbus Dr.💰 Free to watch👦 All ages

This is a bucket list Chicago moment and if your kids haven’t seen the river turn green, this is the year. The dyeing starts at 10am sharp and the brilliant green color only lasts a few hours, so get there early and get a spot along Upper Wacker Drive or one of the river bridges. The lower Riverwalk will be closed except for select ticketed events, so your best free views are from the bridges above. WGN-TV

After the river, stick around for the downtown parade stepping off at 12:15pm on Columbus Drive. This year marks the parade’s 70th anniversary, with bagpipers, Irish dancers, marching bands and floats making their way north from Balbo Drive toward Buckingham Fountain. Time Out Bundle everyone up, grab a coffee, let the kids go wild in their green outfits and soak up one of the things that makes living in this city genuinely special.

🏡 Realtor Mom Take: The neighborhoods with front-row access to this tradition, River North, the West Loop, Streeterville and the South Loop, are some of the most walkable and livable in the city. If watching this from your front door sounds appealing, let’s talk.

St. Patrick’s Day at Gallagher Way 📅 Sunday, March 15 | 11am to 3pm 📍 Gallagher Way, 3635 N. Clark St., Wrigleyville 💰 Free 👦 All ages

If Saturday downtown feels like too much with little ones, this is your move on Sunday. Trinity Irish Dancers and the Shannon Rovers will perform, and the Old Town School of Folk Music will offer music and dance classes on site. A magician, balloon artists, face painters and a stilt walker will be on hand for the kids, with green beer and Irish coffee available for the grown-ups. Chicago Tribune It’s festive without being overwhelming, it’s free, and it’s right outside Wrigley Field. Spring is officially here and this is exactly how you welcome it.

🏡 Realtor Mom Take: Wrigleyville and Lakeview are perennially popular for families who want neighborhood energy, walkability and that sense of community that’s hard to find anywhere else. Inventory here moves fast. Really fast. More on that below.

THE REAL ESTATE HIGHLIGHT: Chicago’s Market Is Moving Fast. Really Fast.

I talk about Chicago real estate every week on our social channels, but this week I want to share something directly from Crain’s Chicago Business because it stopped me in my tracks and honestly just validated everything I’ve been seeing on the ground.

Crain’s has been tracking homes across the city going under contract at a pace agents are calling “wilder than ever.” A two-bedroom condo in Lincoln Park received a dozen offers within 48 hours of hitting the market. In River North, a three-bedroom on Huron Street lasted just six days at $1.68 million before going under contract. In Streeterville, a two-bedroom listed at just under $630,000 was under contract in five days. Crain’s Chicago Business.

One @properties Christie’s agent put it plainly: “as soon as the calendar page was ripped off and turned to 2026, it shifted into high gear.” Mortgage rates starting 2026 below 6.2% versus above 7% a year ago have boosted buying power significantly. Crain’s Chicago Business And as one agent reminded buyers: “if you see something you like, you should go see it right away.” Crain’s Chicago Business.

I could not agree more with all of this and interest rates are now under 6% which is strengthening our city market even more. Spring break feels like the right moment to stop watching and start moving. We are strategically curating offers for listings where our sellers want exclusivity and don’t want 100 people clamoring through their house. We can provide the strategy for you too. If you have been thinking about buying or selling in Chicago this spring or next spring, our texts are open and so is our calendar.
